A flock of eagleson December 3, 2010
What a difference a day makes – during the first round of the NGC we saw a host of double bogeys and a ‘triple-drop’ – but during the second round there was only one score worse than a bogey, and it was Ernie Els who suffered the ignominy of being the ‘joker in the pack.’
Els dumped his tee shot into the water on the short 4th hole, and elected to play his next shot from the tee, eventually taking five shots.
It is hard to remember when so many eagles were made on a course that normally only grudgingly gives up sub-par numbers.
The ‘eagle squad’ was made up by:
Edoardo Molinari – 2nd & 10th holes.
Ross Fisher – 9th hole
Miguel Jimenez – 14th hole
Tim Clark – 14th hole
Anders Hansen – 14th hole.
In addition to the eagles, there were 45 birdies made, and only three players failed to break par – Padraig Harrington and Justin Rose (both carded 72s) and Louis Oosthuizen made a 73.
