The tournament organisers of the Nedbank Golf Challenge did promise something special to celebrate the 30th anniversary of what has become known as ‘Africa’s Major’, and they have delivered.

In a separate tournament to be played simultaneously to the 2010 Nedbank Golf Challenge, eight stars of the Champions Tour will do battle on the Gary Player Country Club’s layout; a course all of them know well. Nick Price, a former world number one who dominated here and won three Nedbank Golf Challenge titles between 1993 and 1998, will be joined by David Frost, also a three-time champion of the Nedbank event, and Fulton Allem, who won $1 million in Sun City (in 1988), an amount which at the time was the biggest first prize in golf. Added to these names are Jeff Sluman and Mark McNulty, the 1986 champion. Also competing will be Americans Jay Haas, Fred Funk and Tommy Armour III, in what promises to be a thrilling spectacle, as all these players have proven to be at the top of their games. They have all enjoyed large measures of success on the over- 50 Tour in recent times, and they will be pulling out all the stops to add the crystal trophy, a replica of the famous original, to their collections.

Playing in pairs ahead of the 12-man field competing for the Nedbank Golf Challenge, the seniors will show fans why the Champions Tour has become so popular in the United States, and spectators will be entertained by these champions that have lost none of their competitive spirit, not to mention the ability that made them icons of game.

Recognised as the most stringent test of championship golf in South Africa, the Gary Player-designed layout will again be manicured to perfection, described by Robert Allenby, who won the Nedbank Golf
