The big beach bashon December 3, 2010
One of the most sought after invitations at the Nedbank Golf Challenge is to the traditional Beach Party held after the opening round, and this year again the Valley of the Waves was the place to see and be seen.
The players, a generous sprinkling of celebrities, and the who’s who of commerce and industry mingled, renewed old acquaintances and generally shot the breeze.
The impressive pyrotechnics, the smells of the barbeques laden with exotic foods and the “inside track” conversations made for an entertaining evening – with most of the players making a hasty retreat; well, perhaps not so hasty.
Full marks to the players, particularly the seniors, who made the effort to pose for photographs, sign autographs and generally made an effort to ensure that the evening was a memorable one.
There was of course one contentious issue – the fireworks. Nobody would argue that this impressive (and rather expensive) display is something to see, but some were heard to say that it doesn’t fit comfortably with the efforts of lessening the environmental impact of this event.
That being as it may, a good time was had by all, and as usual, some had a better time than others – and paid the price the morning after.
